LWS/GEOSPACE MISSIONS DEFINITION TEAM CHARTER

  1. Review and detail the science and user objectives, priorities and justifications defined by NASA HQ and the Science Architecture Team.
  2. Derive and prioritize measurement requirements from the science and user objectives, including measurement parameters.
  3. Develop approach to obtaining the necessary measurements, identifying measurements expected to be acquired from non-LWS programs and those that LWS must acquire.
  4. Compile and evaluate strawman instrument technologies against the measurement requirements.
  5. Develop a set of candidate flight elements that fulfill the requirements and prioritize.
  6. Identify potential environmental impacts on strawman instrument technologies.
  7. Identify accommodation requirements for candidate instruments.
  8. Work with the LWS Project to obtain engineering and cost analyses of the candidate flight elements, and iterate until the flight elements are consistent with the budget cost cap.
  9. Prepare a geospace implementation plan with explicit priorities.
