HELIOPHYSICS DIVISION – CODE 460
Effective June 11, 2006 the GSFC Flight Programs and Projects Directorate reorganized to align with the new organization within NASA Headquarters Science Mission Directorate. The Office at GSFC formerly called the Sun-Earth Connection (SEC) Program Office is now the Heliophysics Division. The missions and projects that reported through the Living With a Star (LWS) and Solar Terrestrial Probes (STP) Program Offices now report directly to the Heliophysics Division at GSFC.
We are updating the LWS and STP Program Web site to reflect the changes and to make these sites more useful to the Heliophysics community and the general public. The first update is the new Heliophysics events calendar. This calendar summarizes major meetings, reviews, conferences, and events for the individual projects and the division as a whole. We welcome your feedback and ideas on how to make this site more useful to you.

NASA Selects APL to Build Radiation Belt Storm Probe Satellites
WASHINGTON, May 8 /PRNewswire/ -- NASA announced Monday the Johns Hopkins University-Applied Physics Laboratory, Laurel, Md., will manage the development and operations of two satellites for the Living With a Star Radiation Belt Storm Probe mission.
The spacecraft will be launched in 2012. Selections of science instruments will be announced later this year. The mission will investigate the interactions of the Earth's radiation belts and magnetic fields with solar storms.
The science results will be used to develop space weather predictions much the same way Earth's weather is predicted. Increased knowledge of the effects of space weather will permit better design and operations of
new technology on Earth and in space.
This mission is the second in the Living With a Star Program. The first mission, the Solar Dynamics Observatory, is planned for launch in 2008 and will investigate solar variability.
